'Stimson Trail Finder'
OBSERVATIONS: Over the past year or so we have had many enquiries asking if we produce or were about to produce a camper van powered by a modest (without being underpowered) petrol engine. Another question asked was could we produce such a petrol powered camper van that could have all the 'goodies' required to camp, but without having to have an elevating roof – and without being too high to enter multi-storey car parks – or even garages. We are now delighted to announce that we have successfully researched and arranged to purchase Honda Stepwagons from Japan. These vehicles are ideal as the base for such a conversion. The vehicles have much the same cubic living area as a Bongo, but that whole cubic area is much lower to the ground, making entry and exit to the vehicle easier and the overall height much lower (under 2mtrs). The Honda's build quality and reliability is legendary. The Stepwagons are powered by 2000cc 16v petrol engines, and are reported to return slightly better than 30mpg. With the price of diesel v petrol this translates to being measurably more economical than a diesel Bongo pulling similar body dimensions. The smoothness and quietness of a petrol engine is also a bonus. We have introduced three models to suit all customer requirements. The Stimson Trail Finder G1 is a fully fitted five seater with Honda production seats and belts. The Stimson Trail Finder G2 is as G1 but with the addition of a rack and quick release Thule top box. Great for more serious touring where more equipment and clothing may be required. With the box removed, the vehicle is returned to an estate car in only seconds. The Stimson Trail Finder 'Base Camp' is again like the G1 and G2 but has been designed for those who wish to spend even more time using the unit as a camper. The box is bonded and colour coded to match the base vehicle and is used for stowing bedding – clothing – table etc. Entry to the box is gained through a sliding hatch inside the vehicle.
